The following gives a general idea of equivalence between the Iranian grading scale and the U.S. letter grading system. There may be differences in the case of particular institutions/programs. U.S. institutions should consult a professional credential evaluation service for more detailed analysis of individual credentials.
Iran is currently considering a move toward a grading system based on an A to F scale similar to that used in the United States; however, this change has not yet been implemented.
The grading scale used at primary, secondary, pre-university, and undergraduate levels is as follows:
Grade scale: 0 - 20
17 – 20 = A
14 – 16.9 = B
12 – 13.9 = C
10 – 11.9 = D
Below 10 = F
Similar scales are used in graduate education but higher grades are needed to pass.
Grading scale for graduate (non-doctoral) study:
Grade scale: 0 – 20
17 – 20 = A
14 – 16.9 = B
12 – 13.9 = C
Below 12 = F
Grading scale for doctoral-level study:
Grade scale: 0 – 20)
17 – 20 = A
14 – 16.9 = B
below 14 = F
