Student Visa Application
Since 1980, there has been no U.S. embassy or consulate in Iran. Therefore, Iranian students must apply for a visa to the United States as third country nationals in another country, which requires additional expense and time. Typically, students from Iran schedule their interviews for the student visa at the U.S. consulates in Dubai or Ankara where there are Persian-speaking consular officers. Students need to travel once for the visa interview and a second time after the visa clearance to receive the visa stamp in their passports. The clearance for Iranian students can take up to one year, in which case the student will need to defer admission and request a new valid I-20 from the U.S. institution.
